Apply smart discovery filters to a source BOM and a target BOM

On the BOM Alignment page, you can apply smart discovery filters to an EBOM and to an assembly-based or usage-based MBOM to better focus on specific data.

An assembly-based manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM) is a BOM view revision (BVR) data structure. A usage BOM is a BOM with a specific purpose or usage, which is based on the manufacturing intent of the material list.

Once you apply the filters, they are automatically saved for you and are reloaded when you return.

Prerequisites

The engineering bill of materials (EBOM) and MBOM structures must be smart discovery indexed. For details, see the Structure Indexing Using Smart Discovery online help.

Procedure

  1. Search for and open a work package with a smart-indexed EBOM and MBOM.

  2. On the Manage Work Package page, create or load an assembly-based MBOM or a usage-based MBOM and navigate to the BOM Alignment page.
    The process of indexing the EBOM from the MBOM may take time. Tip If the Filter command is grayed, refresh your browser.

  3. In the EBOM panel, open the 3D panel and click Filter .

  4. (Optional) Filter the EBOM to display only parts within a specific spatial vicinity relative to a single selected part.

    Select a part, and in Spatial, click Proximity.

    In the Distance text box, type the distance within which you want to include other parts relative to the location of the selected part, and click Add.
    Parts outside the part proximity are removed in the EBOM and 3D panels. The Filter icon in the EBOM panel displays a value of 1, indicating that parts outside the part’s proximity are filtered from the EBOM structure.
    Note The proximity filter is not yet supported in the MBOM panel.

  5. In the MBOM panel, click Filter .
    The MBOM Filter panel is displayed with a list of properties. These elements include NOT
    operator controls, none of which are currently enabled, so no filters are currently applied to the MBOM.

  6. In the search text box, type the full or partial name of the property you do not want to exclude from the MBOM, or scroll down to locate the property.

  7. Select or define the property and activate the NOT control.
    Example In the MBOM Filter panel below, a Sequence Number value of 30 is selected. All parts that do NOT contain that value are excluded from the MBOM, as indicated in the MBOM Find Number column, and all assemblies that do not contain child parts or assemblies with a find number value of 30 are also excluded. In this example, the assembly MFG_BODYSHELL_ASSY has a value of 10. However, this node is included because it contains the child part Yellow, which has a Find Number value of 30.

  8. To broaden the structure by including children that are currently filtered, select one or more selected nodes in the EBOM or MBOM, then right-click a selection and select Append Selected Elements with Children. The selections are permitted in the structure using the OR operator.

  9. To quickly exclude unwanted parts or assemblies, right-click the node to be excluded and choose Exclude Selected Elements.
    Note If parts that are filtered from the MBOM are assigned to a bill of process (BOP), processes or operations to which those parts are assigned are configured out, based on the preference typeAndRuleForProcessConfiguration.

Results

If you navigate to any task page that is affected, parts, as well as processes and operations associated with those parts, are similarly filtered out, and a Filter Applied indication is displayed.

To remove or add filters, you must return to the BOM Alignment page. If you log out and return to the same work package, the data is loaded with the same filters applied for your personal use.
