Create an alternative planning project using a local resource library

If you want to share standard libraries with your suppliers, you can scope a Local Resource Library (LRL) and send it to a line builder or supplier to share preferred resources such as weld guns, robots, and fixtures. The process is similar to creating a standard alternative planning project but requires an additional structure and rules.

Procedure

1. Create master structures for your alternative project such as product, plant and plant bill of process (BOP).

2. Select File→New→Item.

3. In the New Item dialog box, select Local Resource Library and click Next.

4. In the Object Create group, type an optional description and name for the library, and then click Finish.

5. In the new library resource structure, add items such as library resource partitions, robots, and other equipment to your LRL.

6. Create a new collaboration context (CC) that includes all four structures.

7. Choose File→Save as New Structure Context, and in the Save as New Structure Context dialog box, select MEResourceContext.

8. Select the top line of the production CC master, select Move Structure into Collaboration Context Object, and then click OK.

The resource library is included in the production master CC.

9. Select a process line or station in the resource library and choose New→Alternative.

10. In the New Alternative dialog box, define alternate information as you would a standard alternative planning project.

Note Cloning rules are essentially the same as those for a plant BOP. Part and library partitions are cloned but items and resources are referenced by default so that suppliers can add or remove resources as needed.

11. In the Cloned/Referenced column, select Clone or Reference for your resources.

12. In the Full/Partial column, select Full or Partial for any specific structure such as product, plant, plant BOP, or local resource library, and then click Next.

13. In Alternative Scopes, select a work area.

If you selected Partial for any structure in step 12, the group Selected Standard Resource Library Scopes appears at the bottom of the dialog box. If you selected Full in step 10, you cannot define scope for that structure.

14. In your linked local resource library, select any partitions or resources you want to add to your new alternative, and in the Selected Standard Resource Library Scopes group in the New Alternative dialog box, click Add , and then click Next.

15. On the next page, in the Create Standard Resource Library group, accept the default resource library name or type a different name and click Next.

16. In the Summary, review the library scopes.

The Standard Resource Library Cloning Rule list is the same as that of a plant structure. By default, all partitions are cloned and standard resources are referenced. You can use the default or select a custom template here.

17. Click Finish.

The cloned and referenced resource structures are now visible. Note The following restrictions apply regarding copying and pasting from a resource library top plant structure:

You can only consume resources from the linked standard library of resources into a plant BOP. If you try to copy an external resource or library into the plant BOP, you receive an error.

To copy a source object into an alternate process, first copy resources and partitions from the local library into the plant structure, and then copy them from the plant structure into the alternate BOP.
