Integrate with Microsoft Office

Electronic Work Instructions cannot display Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx), Excel (.xsl, .xlsx), PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx), or Visio (.vsd, .vsdx) documents directly.

To integrate with Microsoft Office, Electronic Work Instructions converts the Microsoft files to PDF files, and then converts the PDF files into images.

Note

• If you do not use Microsoft Office documents for work instructions or attachments, you can ignore these instructions.

• Only Microsoft Office 2013 and 2016 are supported.

• Electronic Work Instructions also supports MIME HTML (.mht) documents, a web page archive file format that automatically displays in Internet Explorer and Google Chrome without PDF conversion. These files are not supported in Firefox.

You can use the following instructions to integrate Microsoft Office documents display capabilities in your environment.

Procedure

1. Perform the tasks in Custom report configuration tasks

to support the PDF to image conversion.

Caution If you do not perform the tasks to enable PDF documents in reports, your users will not be able to view Microsoft documents in Electronic Work Instructions.

2. Verify that Microsoft Office is installed on the Teamcenter server.

   Tip If end users report slow response times with Microsoft Office files, you can resolve compatibility issues and avoid memory leaks as described in Troubleshoot Microsoft Office document support.

3. Verify that Windows PowerShell is installed on the Teamcenter server. Windows PowerShell is usually installed when you install the Windows operating system.

4. Verify that the POWERSHELL_HOME system environment variable is set to the correct value.

5. On the Teamcenter server, navigate to data.zip/tcdata, copy the officeDocConvert.ps1 file, and then paste that file to the TCROOT/BIN directory.
