Configure variants based on selections

You can configure a structure from the variant expression of one or more BOM lines.

When you configure variants based on selections, the system considers Product Configurator rules such as inclusion, exclusion, and availability and removes BOM lines that are not relevant.

Structure Manager does not support the order validation mode and uses the overlay validation mode.

An example of configuration based on selection:

1. Create a positive availability biased configurator context as follows:

2. Create the structure with the following BOM lines and variant formula.

3. Select Child_Assy1, right-click, and choose Configure Variants Based on Selection(s).The Driving Position = RHD variant formula is set for Child_Assy1. Therefore, when you configure the structure based on this selection, the system excludes all the BOM lines not set for right hand drive (RHD) or India. The following is the result.

   Note When this action is performed the preference value for Cfg0DefaultRuleDateForContent is considered.

4. Select Child_Assy1 and Child_Assy2, right-click, and choose Configure Variants Based on Selection(s).The Driving Position = RHD variant formula is set for Child_Assy1 and Car_Color = Blue for Child_Assy2. Therefore, when you configure the structure based on these selections, the system excludes all the BOM lines set for LHD (countries such as USA, Australia, Germany, and Japan) and all colors other than blue.The following is the result.
