Manage BOMs

Create a work package and MBOM from an EBOM source

Using an existing work package's EBOM assembly as the source, you can create a work package and associated manufacturing representation MBOM.

Prerequisites

Set the following preferences to use this command.

  • Set the value of MBMEnableModularMBOM to true.

  • Set MbmReleaseStatusForModularBom to a preferred release status.

Procedure

  1. If you have not already done so, search for and open a work package that contains the preferred source BOM and navigate to the BOM Alignment task page.

  2. In the source engineering bill of materials (EBOM), select the source, the assembly from which you want to create a new work package and manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM).

  3. In the MBOM toolbar, click Create MFG Representation .

  4. In the Create MFG Representation panel, from the Connected BOMs list, create a new work package and a manufacturing representation of an MBOM by accepting the default option, Create New BOM.
Note If a work package and target BOM are already associated with the source BOM you selected in step 2, that associated option is available in the Connected BOMs list. If you select the previously associated BOM, all elements in the Create MFG Representation panel are disabled.
To review the previously associated work package, click Close and proceed to step 5.

  5. In the Properties group, in the Name text box, type a name for your new target MBOM.

  6. In the Work Packages group, in the Name text box, type a name for your new work package.

  7. Click Create.

In the background, the new work package is created with the
                     target MBOM.
The EBOM assembly you selected in step 2 contains a
                         Has Manufacturing Representation
icon . A link to the new work package, as well as to any other associated work
package, is displayed in the Contained in Work
                         Package column.

  8. In the EBOM panel, click the link to the new work package. On the Manage Work Package page, the new work package is displayed with the EBOM assembly you selected in step 2 added as the source BOM root node.

  9. In the Tasks panel, click BOM Alignment . On the BOM Alignment task page, the EBOM source assembly that you initially selected is displayed as the root, and its child elements are displayed below. The new MBOM is displayed in the MBOM panel.

  10. Author or modify the MBOM assembly in your new work package.
