Divide changes from a single ECN to multiple MCNs

If you receive an engineering change notice (ECN) with multiple changes tracked under a source BOM such as an EBOM, you can divide those changes into multiple manufacturing change notices (MCNs) while consolidating them in a target BOM, such as a manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM).

From the Change Summary panel in the BOM Alignment task page, you can link changes to other MCNs either by creating a new MCN or by linking to an existing MCN. Multiple MCNs allow multiple users to work at the same time when all changes cannot be immediately addressed.

Prerequisites

Set the following preference values.

• EP_SplitChangeNotice = MBOM (default = MBOM).

• EP_Merge_Multiple_ECN_to_MCN = MBOM (default = blank).

• EP_ReleaseStatusOnECNToAllowMergeOrSplit = a valid value, such as TCM Released.Note If EP_ReleaseStatusOnECNToAllowMergeOrSplit is set to a valid value, the effectivity for the splitting ECNs must be identical.

Procedure

1. Navigate to the BOM Alignment task page from a work package that contains an active MCN that is connected to an ECN.

2. Enable the Show Assignment State comparison control . The Change Summary panel displays mismatch indications and change types (Removed, Added, Changed) for the connected ECN.

3. In the Change Summary toolbar, click Selection Mode .

4. Select the tiles for the changes that you want to move to a new or existing MCN.

5. In the Change Summary toolbar, do either of the following.
   Click Link to MCN , and select an available MCN. Click Create MCN and do the following. In the Create Manufacturing Change Notice dialog box, in the Synopsis and optional Description text boxes, type the preferred text. Click Create and Submit.The selected changes are removed from the panel for the currently active MCN, and the Selection Mode command is disabled in the Change Summary panel. This MCN will now be associated with the work package and the ECN.

6. Open a work package in the context of the new MCN by doing the following.

                    Open a work package with an active MCN that is
                        tracking changes from the source ECN, and on the Manage Work Package page, click
                            BOM Alignment.
                
                
                    In the Track Your Work dialog
                        box, select the MCN that you created or linked in step 5 and click
                            Continue.
   

7. On the BOM Alignment task page, enable the Show Assignment State panel comparison control . The changes you moved from the previously active MCN to the new active MCN are visible in the Change Summary panel.

8. (Optional) Return to the previously active MCN and assign any remaining changes to one or more additional MCNs by repeating this procedure. Changes propagated from the source BOM to the target BOM are now tracked under active MCN.
