ERM workflow

Use enterprise recipe management (ERM) software to author a work package that consists of laboratory, general, site, and master recipes.

The manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM) recipe execution workflow is applicable to assembly-based and to usage-based MBOMs. The workflow accepts an MBOM node as the target and the work package containing the MBOM as a reference object. Upon successful execution of the workflow, BOM recipes defined at all levels in the MBOM are resolved recursively.

Easy Plan allows you to manage calculated formulas and recipes (for example, food, chemical, and pharmaceutical products) that allow you to validate formulations to support production and regulatory needs. Based on ISA88, a standard that addresses batch process control, ERM recipes—not to be confused with BOM recipes—provide a way to describe products and how those products are produced.

There are four types of ERM recipe work package: lab, general, site, and master. The Source BOM of all four is based on a formula and the Target BOM is based on a manufacturing formula. The formula in the Source BOM defines the materials, ingredients, and technical steps required to produce a specific product or batch. The manufacturing formula in the Target BOM encompasses all the components necessary to manufacture one or more location-specific batches of a specific product, based upon site-specific concerns, such as regional cost accounting and material availability.

A laboratory recipe is usually the first stage in a recipe's lifecycle, intended to define the recipe's formulation, details, ingredients, and processes before the product is ready for commercial manufacturing. You can transform a lab recipe to a general recipe, so that laboratory-developed formulations are scaled to plant-neutral recipes applicable to multiple manufacturing locations.

A general recipe is a general, plant-neutral recipe that can be applied to multiple manufacturing locations. You can address general recipe tasks on the BOM Alignment and General Recipe Authoring pages. You can transform a general recipe to a master recipe.

A site recipe uses location-specific batch formulas, based upon site-specific concerns such as regional cost accounting and material availability. You can address site recipe tasks on the BOM Alignment page and the Site Recipe Authoring page. You can transform a site recipe to a master recipe.

A master recipe is plant-specific and location-specific, and provides detailed, concrete manufacturing formulas for specific batch sizes based upon local materials and regulations.
