Configuring structures by using Product Configurator variants
Author variant conditions in a multilevel structure
When you author variant conditions in a multilevel structure that has a configurator context associated at different levels, the variability displayed on the Variant Expression Editor view is that of the immediate parent. If the variability is not present at the immediate parent, the system continues to look till the top line to find the associated variability.
Let us assume that you open a multilevel structure that has configurator context associated at different levels. For example, the LegacyCar structure has the Car configurator context with features from both Fuel and Engine configurator contexts at the root level. Additionally, the Fuel and Engine configurator contexts are associated with SubAsm1 and SubAsm2, respectively.
Note
The root level configurator context must have all the variability available from the configuration context of its subassemblies.
In such a scenario, the P11 and P12 BOM lines for SubAsm1 display only the Fuel configurator context features. Similarly, the P21 and P22 BOM lines display only the Engine configurator context features.
If you want to author variant conditions on SubAsm1, the features of the Car configurator context, that is, features from both Fuel and Engine configurator contexts are available.

Procedure
In Product Configurator, create the Fuel_CC configurator context with the group, family, and features as follows:
Create the Engine_CC configurator context with the group, family, and features as follows:
Create the Car_CC configurator context with the group, family, and features as follows:
In Structure Manager, create the following structure.
Associate Car_CC to the root structure, Fuel_CC to SubAsm1, and Engine_CC to SubAsm2.
Double-click the Variant Formula column for the P11 and P12 BOM lines. The Variant Formula Expression Editor view displays Diesel and Petrol features defined in the Fuel_CC configurator context.
Double-click the Variant Formula column for P21 and P22 BOM lines. The Variant Formula Expression Editor view displays 1.2 litre, 1.4 litre, and 1.6 litre features defined in the Engine_CC configurator context.
Double-click the Variant Formula column for the P31 BOM line. The Variant Formula Expression Editor view displays 1.2 litre, 1.4 litre, and 1.6 litre features defined in the Engine_CC configurator context and Diesel and Petrol features defined in the Fuel_CC configurator context.
