About features

Teamcenter allows you to define design or manufacturing features that are not part of the physical structure imported into the manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM). Manufacturing Process Management supports several feature types, including weld points, arc welds, and datum points. Teamcenter adds Instances of these features to an MBOM structure when the structure is imported from NX.

• Point welding, also called spot welding, uses electric resistance to join pieces with no metal filler.

• Arc welding uses an electric arc to pass current through an electrode to heat and fuse metal, including filler rod metal.

• A datum point is a textual feature used to restrict the transitional and rotational mating surface movement of a part in a manufacturing operation, so that parts can be fused together accurately using the welds.

You can use the two following operation types to help you manage your features:

• MEContinuousJoinOP This operation is intended for use as an arc weld operation. You cannot assign datums or weld points to an MEContinuousJoinOP operation.

• MEDiscreteJoinOP This operation is intended for use as a weld operation. You cannot assign datums or arc welds to an MEDiscreteJoinOP operation.
