Create a lead plant BOP
If your company has many production plants that are similar in design and implementation, you can create a lead (master) plant bill of process (BOP) and other structures such as manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM) and bill of equipment (BOE) contained in a collaboration context (CC), and define a common structure from a central engineering location. This approach is like alternative planning in that the lead plant BOP serves as an offline framework to be reused, in part or in whole, in live target structures. To enable this functionality, an administrator must create a preference named MEEnableLeadPlantBOP with site-level scope set to true.
Note
The preference MELeadPlantBOPDefaultPrefix lets you specify a prefix for the cloned CC.
The preference MELeadPlantBOPDefaultReleaseStatus specifies the default release status to be assigned to objects in the cloned structures in case these objects have no release status.
The preference LeadPlantBOPAllowedTemplates lists the cloning rules available for cloning a lead plant BOP to another plant BOP.
The preference LeadWorkAreaAllowedTemplates lists the cloning rules available for cloning a work area from another work area.
Procedure
- Create the plant BOP that will serve as the lead plant BOP.
Note The lead plant BOP can include the same elements as any regular plant BOP, including process areas, process lines, process stations, occurrence level information, variant rollups, and so on. Your plant BOP becomes a lead plant BOP only when you clone it using the Plant BOP from Lead Plant BOP command, as described in step 3 .
- Create a related BOE, save the related structures to a CC, and assign process operations from the BOE to the lead plant BOP.
Note Your CC must contain, at the minimum, a BOE, MBOM, and BOP. It can also contain an engineering bill of materials (EBOM), studies, and a production program. Classic BOP is not supported.
- With the CC and all structures within it opened, in the lead plant BOP, select any object in the process plan, and choose File→New→From Template→Plant BOP from Lead Plant BOP.
In the New PlantBOP from LeadPlantBOP dialog box, in the Collaboration Context Details group, the name of the currently open CC is displayed by default.
- If necessary, change the CC Name and select the Open On Create check box.
The Collaboration Context Scope list displays all structures from the CC, with details such as window colors, item types, and such information as which structures are fully cloned or referenced.
Note Both the plant BOP and BOE must be fully cloned.
If you prefer, select from the Release Status and Effectivity lists, and then click Next.
Modify the names of the process plan and BOE and click Next.
On the Summary page, review clone, reference, CC, revision rules, and other information.
From the Configuration group, optionally select process plan and BOE cloning rules, and then click Finish.
Results
A new CC is created that contains the cloned and referenced structures. The cloned plant BOP does not differ in appearance from the lead plant BOP.
As changes occur in the lead plant BOP or the cloned plant BOP, you can propagate changes from the lead plant BOP to the cloned plant BOP and vice versa. To find gaps between the BOE and lead plant BOP, you can compare the structures to identify:
Data that is not assigned to the lead plant BOP.
Parameters that are different from the assigned data.
