Managing body BOMs in body-in-white manufacturing > Feature and part connections
Use Suggestive Planner in a process view
You can employ, or assign other planners to employ, a process that uses Suggestive Planner to offer product or manufacturing features from a process view without displaying the BOM.
Procedure
Set the Suggestive Planner scope.
In the process or a related Program Evaluation Review Technique (PERT) view, right-click a station or other process item within the scoped area, and choose Suggestive Planner→Assign Suggested Product or Assign Suggested Features.
With Assign Suggested Product selected, in the Assign Suggested Product dialog box, a list displays all unassigned parts and products. With Assign Suggested Features selected, in the Assign Suggested Discrete Features dialog box, a list displays all unassigned parts that share a manufacturing feature connection to the available parts in that station. Note If you select All unassigned product, all the unassigned parts from the scope are listed. If you select Suggested product, consumed parts from that station or the incoming DIPA are listed, if they have features that share connections, such as welds, to parts in the selected process.
- If you choose to assign suggested products, do the following.
Select a different line in the process or PERT view and then, in the Assign Suggested Product dialog box, select that line in the Station list by clicking Scope .
The Assign Suggested Product dialog box only allows you to select a line with a process, such as a line or station. You can also click the process view's Back or Next buttons to step between selected lines of the same process type.
Select one or more lines in the Suggested Product group and click Assign.
The items are removed from the Suggested Product group and show as consumed in the process or PERT view. If you now select Suggested product in the Criteria group, any of the new consumed products that have connections with the selected process or PERT view are also available for assignment.
- If you chose to assign suggested features, do one of the following.
Select a line in the process or PERT view and then, in the Assign Suggested Discrete Features dialog box, select a line in the Station list by clicking Scope .Note The Suggested Features list box only allows you to select discrete weld spots (discrete spots, no continuous features or datums) and then add them to a line with a process type, such as a line or station. Unassigned manufacturing features display as connected to parts within your scope in the process or PERT view. Connected To (1) and Connected To (2) columns in the Suggested Features list box indicate to which parts the features are connected.
In the Assign Suggested Discrete Features dialog box, select one or more unassigned features, and in the Assign to Operation group, do one of the following.
To assign the features to a root operation at the end of a station, do not select any lines from the group, just click Assign.
To assign the features to a selected process item, select relevant lines from the Assign to Operation group, and then click Assign.
The features are removed from the Suggested Features group and show as consumed in the process or PERT view.
