Finding future effective revisions in a Bill of Process (BOP)

Revision effectivity can be used to model changes in a bill of process (BOP). When looking at a BOP that is configured by effectivity, the only revisions you can see are the ones that are in effect for the configured date or unit and end item. Changes to the BOP that will be configured on future dates and units are not visible. However, if you are planning to make changes to the BOP, it is important to understand whether there are future changes already planned as this can affect your work.

The Find Future Revisions command in the Tools menu searches for these future revisions and displays them.

To find and examine future revisions, select the Process, Process Area, or Operation and click Find Future Revisions command. A view shows you the results of the search.

Use the view’s toolbar button to display dates vertically or units horizontally in the table header .

Interpreting the search results

The search operates on Processes, Operations, or Process Areas. It searches the selected line and any immediate process or operation child lines.

Each line appears as a row in the table which shows the following:

• The BOM line (selected line or child). If you select this in the table, the BOM line is highlighted in the Structure view.

• The number of future revisions that are effective after the configured revision.

• Each future revision is displayed at the start of the effectivity at which that revision becomes effective. These effectivity transition points are displayed as columns in the table.

The cells display the future revision ID and, in parentheses, the ID of the revision from which the future revision was derived.

Note

The Find Future Revisions command works for revisions with status and effectivity. The search focuses only on revisions whose statuses are specified in your revision rule in Has Status () by effectivity clauses.

The search can be used when the revision rule contains a Working() clause. However, the use of Precise, Override, Revision Rule Groups, Latest, and other non-effectivity controlled clauses in the Revision Rule can obscure the search results and lead to inaccurate results.

Viewing more detail

You can select any of the future revision cells and view the difference between the future revision’s BOM line and the configured revision’s BOM line. These are displayed in a panel in the view.

The panel shows:

• The name and effectivity of the status that causes each revision to be configured in the BOP.

• Any child lines that are added or removed.

• Changed property values for child line rows.

Note

The changes shown are the delta between the configured and the selected future revision. These changes may have been authored over a series of interim revisions.

Your administrator can configure which properties to compare and display in the Details panel using the MECTRevEffectivityChildLineCompareProperties and MECTRevEffectivityDetailsProperties preferences.
