Create an isolated study

An isolated study is a trial structure or sandbox where you can perform structure studies without affecting source structures. Depending on your studies preferences, when you create an isolated study from a process structure, Teamcenter:

  • Creates clones of some object types with new IDs.

  • Creates references to others with the same IDs as those in the source process structure.

  • Ignores others, excluding them from the study.

Procedure

  1. Accept the default cloning rules or have an administrator with DBA privileges set up study synchronization rules or custom preferences as detailed in Manufacturing studies preferences.

  2. From a plant BOP, create a linked process structure.

  3. In the process structure, select the structure that contains the objects you want to clone or reference, based on the cloning rules.

Note If no line is selected when you create a study, or if you select the top line of the process structure, Teamcenter creates a new study with no content.

  1. Choose File → New → Study.

Note File → New → Study should only be used if study manager is not installed with Teamcenter Manufacturing Access. While provides limited access to some study manager functionality, studies created in Manufacturing Process Planner will not work in the Teamcenter Manufacturing Access version of study manager. If it is installed, you should always use study manager to create new studies. For more information, see the Teamcenter Manufacturing Access User Assistance documentation.

  1. Select Isolated Study and click Next.

  2. Type an ID for the study or click Assign to let Teamcenter assign one automatically.

  3. Type a name for the study and click Finish.

Teamcenter creates a new study in a Study view, with structure objects cloned or referenced based on cloning rules. Cloned objects have new IDs that do not match their source objects, while referenced objects have the same IDs as they do in the source BOP.

  1. Populate the study with structures by creating new structure objects or copying and pasting from the process structure.

New structures in the study do not appear in the source BOP, nor vice versa, until you synchronize the two.

  1. If the source structure changes and you want to bring those changes into your study, synchronize from the source to the study.

  2. When finished, synchronize or publish from the study to the source.
