    a specification template to create an MBOM structure and apply part assignments

Author an MBOM specification template to capture best practices, guidelines, and instructions for planners. The template instructs Microsoft Copilot to create an MBOM structure from an existing EBOM structure, and to assign parts from that EBOM structure to the new MBOM.

Specification files persist for easy reuse.

Prerequisites

You must have an engineering bill of materials (EBOM) to serve as the structure source for the manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM).

Procedure

1. In Explorer view, select your Newstuff folder, and in the Contents panel, click Add .

2. In the Add dialog box, from the Type list, select Specification.

3. In the Name text box, in the Properties group, type a name for your template and click Add.

4. In the Newstuff folder, select the template.
   In the Details panel, the AI Specifications group is displayed.

5. In the Title and Overview text boxes, define the purpose of the template and click Save.
   Example Title: MBOM creation and parts assignment. Overview: Use this specification template to automate MBOM creation and parts assignments.

6. Expand the Tasks group and click Add New Task .

7. In the Task Title and Task Content text boxes, and in simple text, type the title and task instructions to be used to create an MBOM structure.

8. (Optional) In the Pre-Conditions, Post-Conditions, and Appendices groups, type any additional notes.

                These notes are for planners only and are not interpreted by
                    Copilot.
   

9. Click Save, and then click Add New Task and add another task (for example, Part Assignment), in which you write instructions to Copilot on how parts from the EBOM should be assigned to the MBOM structure that you defined in the previous task.
   Example Assign parts with names starting with Part 1 to Part 4 under MBOM front-right Assign parts with names starting with Part 5 to Part 9 under MBOM front-left Assign parts with names starting with Part 90 to Part 94 under MBOM rear-right Assign parts with names starting with Part 95 to Part 98 under MBOM rear-left Finally assign Part 99 under final assembly node of MBOM

10. Click Save again.

Results

The specification file is complete, and you can now

load the specification template

to execute the defined tasks.
