What are ECNs and MCNs?

An engineering change notice (ECN) records engineering design changes to a product. Manufacturing change notices (MCNs) are essentially ECNs that are specifically intended for manufacturing rather than engineering needs.

Use an MCN to automatically update MBOM and BOP changes across views and send only information that has changed in an MBOM or BOP to an enterprise resource planning (ERP) application. A minimal workflow may include the following.

	An upstream board meeting decides on a manufacturing change and informs a lead planner in engineering.
	In My Teamcenter, the lead planner creates an MCN, determines its status and effectivity, and assigns a process planner to make the necessary updates.
	In Manufacturing Process Planner, the process planner sets the MCN and makes the requested changes to the MBOM or BOP. Those changes are captured.
	The lead planner reviews the changes, validates the data, and sends the updated MBOM or BOP data to the ERP.

An administrator must set the MEMCN_management_enabled preference to true to enable change notice revision commands in Manufacturing Process Planner.
