Managing EBOMs-MBOMs

Propagate objects with changed item IDs from EBOM to MBOM

If you use part or manufacturing feature objects with design names instead of generated item IDs that must be replaced with part IDs in the production phase, you can quickly propagate, in bulk, parts or features with item ID changes. To enable this capability, you or an administrator must set the preference value MEAutoReviseWhilePropagation to true.

Procedure

  1. Open the EBOM and MBOM.

  2. From the menu bar, select Tools→Accountability Check→Advanced Accountability Check.

  3. In the Advanced Accountability Check dialog box, on the BOM Properties subtab of the Partial Match tab, confirm that Primary Revision Configured is the only property in the Selected Properties list.

  4. Confirm that the Consider values of properties when searching for a partial match check box is selected.

  5. On the Reporting tab, select Report the selected check criteria and the Color the compared objects check box.

  6. In the Display Options group, confirm that only the Partial match check box is selected.

  7. On the Inclusion Rules tab, select Search lines per filtering rule, and from the Source filtering rule list, select AccountabilityAll.

  8. Click OK.

Partial matches are shown as yellow lines in the image below. Note that while item names like Design_Sub_assembly1 appear to be identical in the EBOM and MBOM, the item IDs differ: the EBOM item ID for Design_Sub_assembly1 is 000531 while the MBOM item ID is 000523. The differences indicate that the part in the EBOM were either modified or replaced and that as a result, any downstream changes from the MBOM (such as simulations in Process Simulate) are lost.

  1. For all partially matching lines, from the ID in Context column of the EBOM, copy the value of each mismatch and paste it to the ID in Context column of the appropriate lines in the MBOM.

  2. In the Accountability Check view, click Propagate All Partial Matches to recursively propagate the item ID changes from EBOM to MBOM.

  3. Run the accountability check again.

Results

All items for which you have rights now have identical item IDs and appear green in the report. If updates are incomplete, an error message points you to a log file that identifies which parts or features failed to propagate and why.
