Use Planning Assistant to create and assign MBOM and BOP
structures
You can load a specification template that instructs Microsoft Copilot Planning Assistant to create an MBOM structure from an existing EBOM, as well as to generate a BOP structure.
The Planning Assistant can also assign parts from the engineering bill of materials (EBOM) to the new manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM), and assign parts in the MBOM to operations in the bill of procedures (BOP).
Prerequisites
You must have an EBOM to serve as the structure source for the MBOM, and a
specification template
.
Procedure
On your Home page, create a work package.
On the Manage Work Package page, in the EBOM group, click Add .
Search for and select an existing EBOM and then click Add Product.
Click Copilot . Copilot displays in a new panel.
In the Copilot panel, click Planning Assistant .
In the Follow-Up Prompts list, all associated tasks for the loaded work package are displayed.To create an AI-generated MBOM from your EBOM, do the following.
In the Follow-Up Prompts list, do one of the following. Define a new prompt by typing a query and clicking the arrow . Select an existing MBOM specification template file that defines both the MBOM structure to be created and details on how parts from the EBOM should be assigned to the MBOM structure. Copilot reports that a setup file has been added for your selection.The Follow-Up Prompts list now displays all tasks defined in the specification file you selected. Review the AI-generated summary and risk assessment, and then click the prompt result you prefer, to create an MBOM template. In Copilot, expand and review nodes in the structure preview. Note To remove unwanted lines from the list, select them and click Delete , or close Copilot and modify the specification file. Click Proceed. Copilot executes the plan and generates the MBOM template within the work package that is loaded. In the Manage Work Package page, the MBOM is added to the MBOM group.To assign parts from the EBOM to the MBOM, do the following.
With Copilot still active, in the Tasks list, click BOM Alignment .
On the BOM Alignment page, in the Copilot panel, select an appropriate task to assign parts from the EBOM to MBOM.
Review the plan summary, risk assessment, and payload.
Click Proceed. Copilot executes the plan and assigns the parts from the EBOM to the MBOM.To generate a BOP, do the following.
Navigate back to the Manage Work Package page and if necessary, reactivate Copilot and Planning Assistant. In the Follow-Up Prompts list, select an appropriate BOP creation task. The Copilot Al analyzes task details to formulate a plan for BOP generation. Review the Generated Plan. Note To remove unwanted lines from the list, select them and click Delete , or close Copilot and modify the specification file. Click Proceed. The generated plan is added to the current work package, and is displayed in the Process section of the Manage Work Package page.To assign MBOM parts to the BOP operations, do the following.
With Copilot still active, navigate to the Process Planning task page. In the Copilot panel, select an appropriate task to assign parts from the MBOM to the BOP. Review the plan summary, risk assessment, and payload. Click Proceed. Copilot executes the plan and assigns the parts from the MBOM to the appropriate operations in the BOP.
