Usage BOM support

A usage BOM is a bill of materials defined with a specific purpose or usage, based on the manufacturing intent of the material list.

A usage EBOM derives from one or more partitions of a product BOM and defines the usages for each design. All partitions are created within partition schemes, which are hierarchical collections of partitions that can be functional, spatial, or physical.

When you create a usage MBOM, you can use the Collaborative Product MBOM, Collaborative Part, and Manufacturing Usage type, depending on your business needs. Manufacturing usage occurrences are created when assignments are made from EBOM to MBOM, as defined in the preference MEAssignDefaultUsageRevType.

The assignment and restructuring of source usage engineering bill of materials (EBOM) elements in a target usage manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM) on the BOM Alignment page is nearly identical to the assignment and restructuring of source usage when you work with standard EBOM and MBOM assembly structures. You can also work with filtered data in focus mode.

The configuration of a usage MBOM, including revision rules and variants, and date, unit, and shared effectivities, is also identical to that of an assembly MBOM. Working, or change-driven, effectivity is automatically added to the MBOM configuration, and is displayed in the Element Effectivities column in the target BOM. Net unit effectivity and equivalent assignment scopes, formerly called dash rolls, are supported.

Usage BOM change management is also similar to change management applied to standard EBOM and MBOM assembly structures. All assembly change management performed in the EBOM is captured in an engineering change notice, including part replacement, property mismatches, and partial and full accountability checks.

Partitions are configurable in both assembly and usage structures. Once you have created MBOM-specific partition schemes in Active Workspace, you can then assign parts from the EBOM usage assembly to a partition in the usage MBOM, and create manufacturing-specific representations below that partition. In the EBOM panel, the Has Manufacturing Representation column indicates which representations exist for a specific EBOM assembly. If such representations exist, then the Contained in Work Packages column in the EBOM panel shows hyperlinks to all work packages that contain representations.
