Variants

Define and save variant rules in Easy Plan

You can define and save variant rules (SVRs) while working in the planning pages of Teamcenter Easy Plan.

You also have the option to leave Easy Plan to save variant rules on the Product Configurator page in Active Workspace.

There are two types of variant rules:

  • Global variant rules are saved to the Configurator Context within Active Workspace and they are shared across your organization.

  • Local variant rules are saved on your data by associating the rule with predefined object types in your data structure.

Prerequisites

Before you create local variant rules, you must set the EP_SVROwningItemAllowedTypes value to define the object types for which you can save a local variant rule. This preference is passed as a string property and accepts multiple values. The default value is Mfg0BvrProcessLine.

You can save local variant rules on objects in the following structures:

  • Manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM)

  • Plant bill of process (BOP)

  • Classic BOP

  • Custom object types

Note

We recommend defining types that represent a project or an order, for example a process line or a process zone, and not common types like an operation or a process.

In addition, you must add EP_SVROwningItemAllowedTypes to the AWC_StartupPreferences in the Teamcenter rich client.

See the Preferences section in the Active Workspace Administration documentation for a description of preferences and how to set them.

Procedure

  1. If you have not done so already, search for and open an existing work package and navigate to the BOM Alignment, High Level Planning, or Process Planning page.

  2. Do one of the following:

If you are working in the BOM Alignment page, in the source BOM panel, select the
object for which you want to save a variant rule.
If you are working in the High Level Planning page, in the BOP panel, select the object for which you
want to save a variant rule.
If you are working in the Process Planning page, in the Process panel, select the object for which you want to save
                     a variant rule.

  3. Click Show Variant Configuration . The Variant Configuration panel is displayed.

  4. Set the options for the variant rule.

  5. (Optional) Select a local object onto which you want to save the variant rule and click Save.

  6. Type a Name for the variant rule.

  7. Select an option in the Attach to section and then click Save.
To create a local variant rule, click Current Structure. To create a global variant rule, click Configurator Context.

Note If you cannot create a local rule for the object you selected, Easy Plan does not display the Attach to section in the Save As dialog box. You can only create and save a global variant rule.
