Use, add, or remove substitute parts in an MBOM

You can add one or more substitute parts to a manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM) node assigned from an engineering bill of materials (EBOM) node, and then use those local substitutes to replace other parts.

A substitute is a replacement for an object in a local MBOM assembly, such as an interchangeable bolt of the same diameter but different length that may or may not exist in the EBOM, but that can be used if the original bolt is not available. To replace a part in all EBOM product configurations, use global alternates.

Procedure

  1. Search for and open a work package and navigate to the BOM Alignment page.

  2. In the Manufacturing BOM panel, select the part for which you want to use, add, or remove substitutes.
    Note

You cannot enable substitutes by selecting the root level.

In the EBOM, select a part to view substitutes in the EBOM. You cannot create, use, or remove substitutes in the EBOM.
