Generate PFMEA objects for a BOP

You can generate a PFMEA object for a BOP and then open the object in a new Active Workspace tab.

Process Failure Mode Effect and Analysis (PFMEA) is a methodology to prevent defects before production begins. Use PFMEA to identify and minimize risks involved in the initial product design or process manufacturing stage. There are two types of FMEA: Design FMEA (DFMEA) and Process FMEA (PFMEA). Manufacturing primarily focuses on PFMEA.

Prerequisites

• You must install the Easy Plan FMEA template to view the PFMEA tab and related commands.

• Use the EP_PFMEATabColumnConfiguration preference to set column configuration for the PFMEA tab.

Note

To limit the expansion of BOP for PFMEA, use the bill of procedure (BOP) expansion rule BOPExpandForPFMEASkipDIPAWAPR. Dynamic in-process assembly (DIPA), assigned DIPA nodes in the operation, process resources, and assigned work areas are ignored.

Procedure

1. Do one of the following.

                        If you are using a plant BOP, or have small product mode enabled,
                                navigate to the
                                High Level Planning, Process
                                Planning, or Product BOP
                                Authoring task page.
                    
                    
                        If you are using a classic BOP, navigate to the High Level
                                Planning or Process Planning
                            task page.
   

2. On the High Level Planning task page, in the BOP panel, select the root node of the BOP and in the Information panel, select the PFMEA tab. Any existing PFMEA objects that were previously generated with hard-link or soft-link references are visible in the tab. See below.

3. On the PFMEA tab toolbar, click Generate FMEA Structure .

4. In the Generate FMEA panel, in the Name text box, type a name for the PFMEA object, and from the FMEA Guidelines list, select an appropriate item.

5. In the Reference Type group, select:

                        Reference items with
                                hard-link to ensure a closed-loop process with the
                            highest risk analysis efficiency.
                    
                    
                        Reference items with soft-link to ensure high
                            source structure flexibility with moderate risk analysis
                            efficiency.
                    
                    
                        Do not reference
                                items to ensure the highest flexibility for the
                            source structure by disconnecting risk analysis.
   

6. Click Generate.

Results

Unless you selected Do not reference items, the new PFMEA item is displayed in the PFMEA tab of the Information panel. The PFMEA is generated for the selected BOP even without references.
