Tracking and propagating changes to a structure

As the manufacturing planning cycle progresses, one of the challenges the manufacturing engineer experiences is keeping up-to-date with changes in the product. Parts may be revised, added, removed, and BOM line properties may be changed. You can easily discern which changes are made to a product structure using the Change Tracker view.

This view displays all the changes that took place in a range defined by either unit or date effectivity. These changes can be based on incremental change or on revision effectivity (or both). Once the Change Tracker view lists the changes, you can work through the changes, marking them to indicate that they have received attention or propagating the changes to a target structure.

Note

  • The change tracker does not search for changes that have an end date or expiration unit within the specified range.

  • If both unit and date effectivity are specified in the revision rule, only unit search is supported. You cannot search for a combination of these.

For each change resulting from an added part or changed properties, the change tracker can provide you with suggestions on where to propagate the changes in a target structure. The change tracker finds the candidate source lines based on three mechanisms.

  • Consumed siblings Teamcenter checks if any of the siblings of the added line exist in the target structure. If they do, it offers the sibling’s parent as a possible target to receive the change.

  • Existing logical assignment designator Teamcenter checks if a line in the target structure has the same logical designator.

  • Line already exists in target structure Teamcenter checks if the added or modified line already exists in the target structure.

You can use the change tracker to find changes between any two structures. You can propagate changes between a product BOP and a plant BOP.

The following prerequisites are necessary to run the change tracker.

  • The structure’s revision rule has to have either unit or date effectivity specified.

  • Show Unconfigured Changes must be turned off.

  • To propagate to an impacted structure, incremental change must be turned on in the impacted structure.
