Manually align a part BOM to a design BOM
You can manually heavy- or light-align a part BOM to a design BOM. There are different benefits to heavy versus light alignments.
Create one or more heavy alignments
Procedure
If you have not already done so, create and link a part BOM to a design BOM and ensure that all requirements are met.
Do either of the following.
Heavy align a single part or part subassembly. Note If you apply heavy alignments to many children of a parent subassembly, you should always apply light alignment to the parent subassembly. If the parent of heavily aligned children is also heavily aligned and transform changes are applied to both, you will need to separately update both the parent and the child heavy alignments. If the parent is lightly aligned, you only need to update that alignment to the parent to update all parent and child transforms.
In the part BOM, right-click the part or subassembly to be aligned and choose Create Heavy Alignment to Design.
Note
You can also locate the design and create a heavy alignment using the Search for Design and Create Heavy Alignment command.
In the Create Heavy Alignment to Design dialog box, the part is displayed in the Part list box.
In the design BOM, select the part or subassembly to be aligned, and next to the Design list box, click Set/Add current selection
.
Click OK, and in the confirmation, click OK again.
The part or subassembly is aligned to the design element and displays an end item icon . If you chose to align a subassembly, it is treated as a single element in the part BOM.
Click Show Graphics
in the part BOM and show the aligned part or subassembly.
If the designer has completed his work, the part or subassembly is visible in the graphics window.
Heavy align multiple parts. Note You can only align multiple parts with the same item ID. Use the Copy and Paste commands to create parts with the same item ID (for example, a collection of identical bolts), or find a reusable part in Teamcenter.
Press Ctrl, and in the part BOM, select the parts to be aligned.

You can also locate the design and create a heavy alignment using the Search for Design and Create Heavy Alignment command.
Choose Create Heavy Alignment to Design.
In the Create Heavy Alignment to Design dialog box, the parts are displayed in the Part list box as well as their total count.
In the design BOM, select the same parts to be aligned, and next to the Design list box, click Set/Add current selection
.
The design objects are displayed in the Design list box as well as their total count.
Note
There is no guarantee that multiple selected bolts in the part BOM align in the same order as those selected in the design BOM.
Click OK, and in the confirmation, click OK again.
The parts are aligned to the design element and display end item icons .
Click Show Graphics
in the part BOM and show the aligned parts.
Create one or more light alignments
Procedure
If you have not already done so, create and link a part BOM to a design BOM and ensure that all requirements are met.
Do either of the following.
Light align a single part or part subassembly.
In the part BOM, right-click the part or subassembly to be aligned and choose Create Light Alignment to Design.
Note
You can also locate the design and create a light alignment using the Search for Design and Create Light Alignment command.
In the Create Light Alignment to Design dialog box, the part is displayed in the Part list box.
In the design BOM, select the part or subassembly to be aligned, and next to the Design list box, click Set/Add current selection
.
Click OK, and in the confirmation, click OK again.
The part or subassembly is aligned to the design element. If you chose to align a subassembly, all parts are aligned in the part BOM.
Light align multiple parts. Note You can only align multiple parts with the same item ID. Use the Copy and Paste commands to create parts with the same item ID (for example, a collection of identical bolts).
Press Ctrl, and in the part BOM, select the parts to be aligned.

Choose Design Alignment→Create Light Alignment to Design.

In the design BOM, select the same parts to be aligned, and next to the Design list box, click Set/Add current selection

The design objects are displayed in the Design list box as well as their total count.
Note
There is no guarantee that multiple selected bolts in the part BOM align in the same order as those selected in the design BOM.

The parts are aligned to the design element.
