Align reused assembly pairs
Use the Align Reused Assembly command to support alignment of multiple reused assembly pairs from a source BOM to a target BOM.
Prerequisites
Set the value of the preference MEEnableAlignmentForReusedAssemblyPairs to true to enable this feature (the default value is false). If the preference value is set to false, only the capability to add and align parts in a reused assembly is different.
Procedure
In the Manufacturing Process Planner rich area client, open a collaboration context work package and compare its EBOM and MBOM structures.
(Optional) If you are viewing unconfigured structures, turn them off so that you have 100% BOMs by deselecting the show unconfigured toggles. While you can run the alignment without fully configuring the structures, not all lines may be aligned. Aligned lines display IDIC values in the ID In Context (Top Level) columns of the source and target BOMs.
In the MBOM panel, for each reused assembly to be aligned, set the value of the Reuse Assembly column to 1.
In the EBOM and MBOM, select each structure to be aligned, and then choose Tools → Manufacturing Alignment → Align Reused Assemblies → Link Reused Assembly.
All allocations of the reused assembly in the MBOM (and in other MBOMs if reused elsewhere) are now linked. Note A relation gets created based on the preference MEMbomEbomAssmAlignmentRelationName =Mfg0ReuseAssemblyRel). To unlink a linked reused assembly, choose Tools → Manufacturing Alignment → Align Reused Assemblies → Unlink Reused Assembly.Align absolute transform positions by selecting the source and target reuse assembly and choosing Tools → Manufacturing Alignment → Align Reused Assemblies → Align Selected Assembly Position.
In the EBOM and MBOM panels, select either the scope or the structures to be aligned, and choose Tools → Manufacturing Alignment → Align Reused Assemblies → Align Reused Assembly.
Tip You can select a single reused assembly and apply Align Reused Assembly to just that assembly. You can also select a parent or root assembly, or select areas using the Scope command, to align reused child assemblies in that selection.
The Source and Target boxes should reflect your scope. Tip To correct a mistake, select the proper selection in the EBOM or MBOM and then click to load that selection in the Source or Target box.Click Align.
Results
The parts and reusable assembly are aligned randomly. In this example, the 033629 root source in the EBOM was realigned with the 033630 root target in the MBOM, applying all alignments to the child assemblies beneath the root. The source EBOM aligns with any target node.
Note
The reused assembly can also work for a different source and target selection. For example, you could also select 0333631 and 0333635 from a different source (EBOM_Top2) and a target (MBOM_Top2).
If you create a new assembly in the EBOM, and then add reused nodes to it, the IDICs do not update in the EBOM and MBOM because the new lines are completely different occurrences and the reused nodes were initially assigned elsewhere. To resolve this problem, do the following.
In the EBOM, select a reused assembly and choose File → Save As → Item(Revision). In the Save Item Revision As dialog box, in the Name text box, type a name for the assembly. Select the Copy to Clipboard check box, click Finish, and then click Close. In the EBOM, select the node where you want to place the reused assembly and press Ctrl + v to paste it there. In the EBOM and MBOM, select each structure to be aligned, and then choose Tools → Manufacturing Alignment → Align Reused Assemblies → Align Reused Assembly.IDICs are stamped to the nodes in the EBOM and the structure is aligned with the MBOM.
