Relate and filter a mixed products production plant BOP to show only operations related to specific product BOMs

For companies involved with mixed product production, a station-based plant BOP often contains operations that refer to multiple product BOMs. Some products may be consumed in the BOP under operations but many operations do not contain consumption from any products. Using this feature, operations can be related to one product, to some products, or to all products.

In order to show information related to a specific product or products, you can use the Related Products view to identify operations with consumed elements as well as operations allocated to a plant BOP from multiple product BOMs. You can also define relations between operations and products yourself. Using the Define Configuring Structures command, and the MEFilterBopByProductRelation preference, you can filter the plant BOP to show only operations related to a specific product or products.

Procedure

1. In Manufacturing Process Planner, open a station-based plant BOP linked to multiple product BOMs and load the BOM(s) for which you want to identify product information.

As long as an operation has write access, links to BOMs can be changed or updated over time. Product information can be identified for all BOMs open in the current session.

2. Right-click a process station and choose Open with→Related Products.

A Related Products view shows all operations within the process station, including those with no relation to the product. The icon indicates products that are consumed under the operation. You cannot modify relations with the icon, but you can remove the relations by going to the plant BOP and manually removing the consumption. A green check box indicates that the operation is related to the item structure.

3. To associate an operation with an item structure, in the Related Products view, double-click the operation's cell in the structure's column.

Use check boxes to configure the plant BOP structure even if there is no consumption in the product structure. For example, if a weld operation does not have specific items consumed because they are already consumed in an assembly operation higher up in the plant BOP hierarchy, you can relate the weld operation to the product structure and configure it out depending on Define Configuring Structure dialog box settings. Note You can also double-click a cell with a check box to clear an association.

4. To filter the plant BOP based on consumed items or related products, do the following.

Select Tools→Define Configuring Structures.

The Define Configuring Structures dialog box is displayed, showing all the currently loaded configured structures.

Clear the check boxes next to any configured structures for which you do not want to view consumption and click OK.

In the plant BOP, select Show Unconfigured Assigned Occurrences .

Results

The plant BOP structure and Related Products view are updated to display operations related to the checked structures.
