Managing the enterprise BOP > Balancing a production line

Using the Line Balancing Chart view

The Line Balancing Chart view presents a bar chart where the horizontal axis shows the process areas. Each bar represents a station, and each operation allocated to a station is represented as a section of a bar. If a bar lies across multiple operations, it indicates that those operations are a sequential process. The capacity (cycle time * number of workers) is shown as a red line in the graph. If the total allocated time of all the operations at a station exceeds the capacity of the station, operations above the capacity line are displayed in red.

The MEAllocationLevel preference defines the types of plant objects to which you can allocate an operation from a product BOP. The line balancing chart displays the business object types specified in this preference (if the type is a process station) as stations in the chart.

The cycle time is shown as red lines in the view. If there are different cycle times for each station, the lines show multiples of the cycle time of the first station (from the top of the plant BOP structure moving downward in the structure) whose cycle time is not equal to zero.

Note

When calculating the capacity for stations in a structure, Teamcenter also uses the cycle time of the topmost station in the structure. In the preceding figure, the cycle time is 20 and the capacity is 40 because the first station, Stn1, has a cycle time of 20 with 2 workers assigned to it. If you change the cycle time of the top-level plant BOP from 0 to 30, the cycle time shown in the chart is 30, and the capacity is then 30 for the stations that have 1 worker and 60 for the station that has 2.

Note

If operations are created under a process in the plant BOP structure, the Line Balancing Chart view will not show the operations. To show the operations, below the process in the Line Balancing Chart view, the MECollectionTypeProcesses preference must be set up with the process type (for example, Process).

Note

If the PSM_Enable_Product_Configurator preference is set to true OR the configurator context is attached to the PlantBOP structure, the PlantBOP → Open With → Line Balancing Chart option is not available in the rich client.
