Create and edit ERM flows

You can create conditional flows for any procedure, recipe unit procedure, or operation in an ERM recipe chart.

When you create a flow, you can set the type of flow, add conditions, and provide descriptions. You can create custom flow types and set specific conditions to fit your processes.

Prerequisites

Use the preference ERMRecipeFlowTypeList to define which flow types are available from the Create Flow command. Supported flow types include Material Flow, Recirculation, Rework, and Overflow.

You must run the Data Migration Utility before updating flows in preexisting recipes.

Procedure

1. While authoring a general, site, master, or lab recipe, from a relevant procedure or process stage, click More … and choose Create Flow. In the resulting panel, the value of Select Predecessor is already selected unless this is the root element in the process. Select Successor is also preselected.

2. In the flow chart, select the node that you want to appear previous to the predecessor. The selected element is displayed in Select Successor.

3. To set the flow as dependent on no conditional logic, select Non-conditional Flow.

4. Unless you selected Non-conditional Flow, choose a condition Type.

   Material Flow Set the element flow as sequential or parallel.
   
   Recirculation Set the element flow to loop or reiterate.
   
   Overflow Set the element to react to unpredicted or required overflows.
   
   Custom Flow Set the element to use customized conditional logic.

5. In the Explanation text box, type an explanation for the flow.

6. In the Condition text box, type the logical condition based on your type selection.

7. Click Create. The flow is updated as you defined in the diagram, and includes distinct symbols that help you to quickly identify the flow type. Tip Double-click a flow to edit or change details.
