Managing the enterprise BOP > Working with tool requirements
About resolving a tool requirement
Tool requirements are resolved in the plant BOP. Teamcenter searches for all the tools that match the search criteria contained in the tool requirement in both the work area (and child work areas) associated to the immediate process area and the classification hierarchy and presents these matching tools in the Tool Requirement Resolver view. You then choose one tool to fulfill the requirement from the list of possibilities, and Teamcenter exchanges the requirement with the actual tool in the plant BOP.
For example, for OP-1 shown in the figure, the immediate process area is ProcessArea-2. The child work areas of ProcessArea-2 are displayed in blue—WorkArea-1, WorkArea-2, and WorkArea-3. If WorkArea-1 and WorkArea-3 are unavailable, no other work area is considered. If a tool is used in multiple work areas, Teamcenter reports it from the work area that precedes the other. If the same tool is found in a work area and in the classification hierarchy, it is reported multiple times.
If the resolved tool is configured out, the tool becomes invisible and is not displayed in the tool requirement. As a result, the tool requirement allows resolving against other candidate tools without removing the invisible tool. This implies that the tool requirement is resolved against two tools—one invisible and another visible—with different effectivity. An attempt to re-resolve at this stage replaces the visible tool with the new matching tool without affecting the invisible tool. Based on the configuration rule, the tool can be made visible. You can, therefore, set configuration rules such that both the tools are visible at one time. This is the only exception where multiple tools are shown as a resolved tool in a tool requirement. If you re-resolve at this stage, Teamcenter replaces both tools with the new one.
Caution
If the same tool requirement is open in two different configurations, the Tool Requirement Resolver view does not update the results of resolving a requirement immediately. You must do one of the following:
Choose Refresh from the Tool Requirement Resolver view menu.
Close and re-open the Assignment view.
If you delete a resolved tool from a process or operation using the Remove a Line button , the resolved tool requirement in the Assignments view reverts to being an unresolved tool requirement. You must refresh the Tool Requirement Resolver view to see the results.
