Replace parts and add or remove structure levels in an MBOM

In addition to letting you assign and remove parts using change management tools, Easy Plan lets you replace parts or manufacturing assemblies assigned to your manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM) or other target BOM, with other parts or assemblies independent of the engineering bill of materials (EBOM) or other source BOM. You can also add or remove structure levels to restructure MBOM parts and manufacturing assemblies.

Note

To avoid broken links in your work package bill of process (BOP), check BOP assignments after part replacement or restructuring.

After part replacement or restructuring, check the link for the consumed nodes in your work package bill of process (BOP).

Procedure

1. Search for and open a work package and navigate to the BOM Alignment page.

2. (Optional) Enable Show Assignment State if you want to visualize assignment statuses between the EBOM and MBOM.

3. Do one or more of the following.

                                              assembly to be replaced and choose Edit Structure
                                               → Replace

                                              From the Type list, select an
                                              object type and in the Name text box, type a unique name for
                                              the new part or assembly.
                                              
                                              
                                              Click the Palette tab and
                                              select the end item from the resulting Clipboard, Favorites, or
                                              Recent
                                              group.
                                              
                                              
                                              Click the Search tab to locate
                                              the item. 
                                              
                                              
                                              Click the Classification tab to
                                              select a classified object to add as a
                                              replacement.
                                              
                                            
                                        Click
                                              Replace.
                                        If Show Assignment State
                                              is enabled, at the prompt, do either of the
                                              following.
                                              
                                              To update changes to
                                              assignment indications in the MBOM, click
                                              Update
                                              Now.
                                              
                                              
                                              To ignore assignment tracking,
                                              click Switch Off
                                              Indications.
                                              
                                            
                                    
                                    In the MBOM panel, the original part or
                                        assembly is replaced. In the EBOM panel, which is independent of the
                                        MBOM, the original part or assembly is retained.
                                
                            
                            
                                Add existing MBOM parts to a new
                                    structure level
                                
                                    
                                        In the MBOM,
                                              press the Ctrl and Shift keys to select the parts
                                              or assemblies that you want to add to a new
                                              structure level, and then choose Edit Structure
                                               → Insert Level
                                              .
                                        In the
                                              Insert
                                              Level dialog box, do one of the
                                              following.
                                              
                                              From the Type list, select an
                                              object type and in the Name text box, type a unique name for
                                              the new level.
                                              
                                              
                                              Click the Palette tab and
                                              select the end item from the resulting Clipboard, Favorites, or
                                              Recent
                                              group.
                                              
                                              
                                              Click the Search tab to locate
                                              the item. 
                                              
                                              
                                              Click the Classification tab to
                                              select a classified object to add as a new
                                              level.
                                              
                                            
                                        In the Insert Level dialog box, click
                                              Insert.In
                                              the MBOM, a new structure level is displayed. The
                                              parts you selected now become children of the new
                                              level.
                                    
                                
                            
                            
                                Remove a level from the MBOM but retain
                                    its contents
                                
                                    
                                        
                                            In the MBOM, select the level
                                              structure to be removed, and choose Edit Structure
                                               → Remove Level
                                              .
                                            The level is removed but its
                                              child objects are now contained in its parent (one
                                              level up). The child objects of the selected
                                              occurrence are associated directly to the parent
                                              object of the selected occurrence.
                                        
                                    
                                    Note 
                                        If an assembly is assigned from EBOM
                                            to MBOM and the parts below this assembly are
                                            consumed in the BOP, you must reassign the parts
                                            following removal of this level in the MBOM.
                                    
                                
                            
                            
                                Remove a part or assembly level and all
                                    its child nodes from the MBOM
                                
                                    
                                        
                                            In the MBOM, select the level
                                              structure to be removed, and choose Edit Structure
                                               → Remove
                                              .
                                            The level and all its contents
                                              are removed from the MBOM.
   

4. Check the consumption of restructured parts assigned to the BOP.
