Scope one or more subsets of a source plant BOP to an alternative study

Using the preference ME_Enable_Alternative_Scope, you can select multiple process areas, process lines, and process stations in a plant BOP and send or update those items to an alternative plant BOP, provided they are both launched from the same collaboration context (CC) tree. The selected scope of this action applies product part and manufacturing feature assignments, as well as in-process assemblies (IPAs), dynamic in-process assemblies (DIPAs), studies, and simulations to the alternative project.

Procedure

  1. From a CC, open the source plant BOP and alternative structure to be updated, as well as any product BOMs that contain items consumed in the plant BOP.

  2. To enable subset scopes, set the value of the preference ME_Enable_Alternative_Scope to true; to define a suffix for the product scope name, define a single string value into the preference ME_Alternative_Scope_Suffix.

  3. In the plant BOP, select the process areas, process lines, and process stations that you want to set as the scope of the alternative project. Press Ctrl to select different objects.

In this example, a single process station is selected.

  1. Choose File→New→Alternative.

In the New Alternative dialog box, the Full/Partial column displays the source plant BOP as Partial because the selected scope includes only part of the structure. In this example, both PlantBOP_mfg05_2_100 and a bill of equipment (BOE) called Plant (mfg_engg_5)_100 are displayed as partial matches. These partial selections are the scope of what will be cloned in the alternative project. Two product BOMs that will be merely referenced are marked as Full in the Full/Partial column.

  1. Click Next.

The process objects you selected as your scope from the source plant BOP are displayed in the Process Plan and Bill of Equipment's Scopes lists. By default, the Create Persistent IPA checkbox is selected.

  1. Clear the check box or click to define an IPA from the plant BOP source.

If you have more than one product BOE in your CC and they are open in the current session, a message reports that only one configuring structure is allowed.

  1. To define the structure, click Yes.

In the Define Configuring Structures dialog box, the source plant BOP is selected in the Name and the current CC is selected in the Collaboration Context read-only text boxes.

  1. In the Configuring Structures group, select the preferred configuring structure and click OK.

  2. In the New Alternative dialog box, click Selected Scopes for Products.

The list displays product structures available in the CC and open in the current session.

  1. Click a product view.

The Product Scope Name text box lists the name of your new alternative project, along with a suffix if you set the ME_Alternative_Scope_Suffix preference. The Scope for the selected Product list displays objects (BOM lines) from the process items you initially selected as the scope. In this example, the selected product structure DUNE BUGGY BODY BOM is displayed as the Product Scope Name along with the ME_Alternative_Scope_Suffix preference value _Alter.

All product parts in the scope of the selected station are displayed in the Scope for the selected Product list.

  1. (Optional) Add a product part or manufacturing feature from an area of the source plant BOP that is outside the scope of the process areas that you originally selected.In this example, a weld is selected from Station 03, which is outside the originally selected Station 02.

Right-click the selected product part or manufacturing feature, choose Find→Find in All Visible Views, and select the product view currently selected in the Selected Scopes for Products list.

The product part or manufacturing feature is located in the product view and added to the Scope for the selected Product list. In this example, weld WP 1094 from the product view DUNE BUGGY BODY BOM is added to the list.

Click Next.

If you receive a Missing Connected Parts message, click OK. The message indicates that you added a part or manufacturing feature from outside the initially selected scope. This problem will soon be resolved.

For the process plan and BOP structures to be cloned, accept the default names, or in the Name boxes, type unique names and click Next.

Click Next, review the Summary page, and then click Finish.

  1. Once the alternative structure views are created, open and review them in Manufacturing Process Planner.

Results

In this example, DUNE BUGGY BODY BOM_Alter02 shows a number of connectors. Parts and manufacturing features at the bottom of the view are in the direct scope of the station, while the collectors above represent parts and features that are not directly part of that scope. Parts to which the weld was connected are contained in the Connected to Collector node and manufacturing features in the Manufacturing Features Collector node. The In-Process Assemblies Collector node contains DIPA and IPA assemblies.
