Part planning with Easy Plan and NX CAM
You can create a numerical control (NC) machining operation, assign the part to be machined, and allocate the necessary resources. Once the operation is set up, you can open the NC machining operation in NX CAM to update the machining information, such as the NC program and work instructions.
After updating the information in NX CAM, you can save the changes to be viewed. This integration ensures that all machining details are captured accurately and easily accessible.
Prerequisites
Install the following templates: NX for Active Workspace NX Integration NX Foundation NX Part Family Classification Integration NX Rich Client Integration NX Templates for Teamcenter
Set the following preferences.

- Select a configuration file for an operation in NX CAM. If you are using the Manufacturing Resource Library and have the necessary license, you can select cam_part_planner_mrl.dat. If you do not have the necessary license, you can select cam_teamcenter_ascii_library.dat.
Procedure
If you have not done so already, search for an existing work package or create a work package.
In the Process panel, expand a process and select a process station.
Click Add, then select Add Operation.
In the Add Operation dialog box, select the type NC Machining Operation, type an operation Name, and then click Create.
Teamcenter Easy Plan creates the NC machining operation as a child of the process station.
To assign parts to the NC machining operation, select the NC machining operation and verify that the Parts tab below the Process panel is active.
Select the Assembly subtab, expand the MBOM, and drag objects to the Parts tab. Alternatively, you can assign the part by copying and pasting it onto the operation or by dragging and dropping it onto the operation.Note The assigned part may be considered as the work part in NX CAM.
Teamcenter Easy Plan assigns the parts to the operation.
(Optional) To assign resources to the NC machining operation, select the Resources subtab, then expand the work area.
You can either:
Drag and drop resources in the Resources tab. Copy and paste the resources to the operation.
Alternatively, you can assign a Work Area to the NC machining operation.
Teamcenter Easy Plan assigns the resources or work area to the NC machining operation.
- In the Process panel select the NC machining operation, click ..., and select Open in NX.
The NC machining operation is opened in NX. You can author or make changes to the NX CAM data, and save those changes back to Easy Plan. Note When saving changes from NX CAM, the displayed datasets depend on whether only the dataset for the post-processed NC program is available or if the dataset for the published work instruction is also available.
- Select the NC machining operation, then click Show Part Planning Activities.
Teamcenter Easy Plan lists machining activities or operations created in NX CAM, NC program files, and work instructions (if available) associated with the machining operation.
- View the activities, like the operations created in NX CAM, NC program files, and published work instructions associated with the activities.
