Refer solution variants from an EBOM and create solution variants in an
MBOM
You can refer solution variants of the category Reuse and create solution variants in an MBOM.
Rather than generate multiple manufacturing bills of materials (MBOMs) for each solution variant created in an engineering bill of materials (EBOM) , you can use a single EBOM that includes all possible parts for every product variant—for example, all Base, Midclass, and Deluxe features. This comprehensive list is typically known as a 150% BOM.
For manufacturing planning, you can use a 150% EBOM, 150% MBOM, and 150% bill of process (BOP). Based on the variant rule applied to the structure, in the Solution Variant columns of the EBOM and MBOM panels on the BOM Alignment page, the system displays the ID and revision of the matching solution variant. This approach is valuable for enterprise resource planning (ERP) and manufacturing execution systems (MES), as they convey tasks such as ordering, costing, and tracking the assembly of 100% products.

Prerequisites
You need a Teamcenter MBOM plus license to create solution variants to an assembly or usage-based MBOM.
Solution variants in an MBOM are enabled when the template MBM Solution Variant Support is installed.
The preference MBMSVSourceFromEBOM must be set to true to pull matching solution variants of the category Reuse from a linked EBOM to an MBOM.
The default value is true. When it is set to false, solution variants can only be created in a complete MBOM structure.
Procedure
In Active Workspace, create an EBOM structure and define reuse solution variants in that structure. For more information, see the Engineering BOM Management ─ Usage online help.In this example, a reuse solution variant is created for a specific, saved variant rule. Defining the solution variants in the EBOM allows you to generate all possible 100% part numbers for all configurable assemblies in cases that involve long lead items, costing, and a need to identify possible suppliers.
In Easy Plan, create a work package with the EBOM structure loaded with a linked MBOM structure. This example shows the same EBOM with a linked MBOM in the BOM Alignment task page. The same solution variant is present.The CHASSIS assembly in the EBOM and the MFG_CHASSIS_ASSY in the MBOM have an EBOM-MBOM relation, as indicated by the diamond icon in the EBOM. This indicates that solution variants for MFG_CHASSIS_ASSY are referred from the EBOM.Note
If an alert icon displays in the MBOM Solution Variant column, the preference MBMSVSourceFromEBOM is set to true and the icon indicates that solution variant IDs of only complete manufacturing structures are exported. For example, if all parts for a specific variant are not assigned from the CHASSIS assembly in the EBOM to the MFG_CHASSIS_ASSY in the MBOM, then the solution variant definition is incomplete in the MBOM and will not exported.
When variants are created from the MBOM, MBMSVSourceFromEBOM is set to false and the alert icon is not displayed.
The preference MBM_SVPullFromEBOMExcludeTypes controls which item types of manufacturing representation solution variants should not be referenced in the EBOM.
Example If you remove a part from the structure that is impacted by solution variants, the assembly that contains that part still displays a solution variant ID in the MBOM Solution Variant column. The part and solution variant are excluded if you export the structure as is to an MES system, because the assembly is not complete in the MBOM. You can also run a source to target BOM accountability check in the background and then revise or remove the solution variant.If a manufacturing assembly is a manufacturing representation of the EBOM subassembly and a configurator context is defined in the MBOM, use the Create for Children command to create additional solution variants below the manufacturing representation.
