Line balancing and detailed timing

Use bottleneck time to calculate line balancing

You can use bottleneck time to calculate line balancing instead of takt time. This feature allows you to calculate the wait time for each operator or cobot, and to identify bottlenecks on the line.

Prerequisites

To use this feature, you must set the EP_LineBalancingUseBottleneckTime value to true. In addition, you must add EP_LineBalancingUseBottleneckTime to the AWC_StartupPreferences in the Teamcenter rich client.

See the Preferences section in the Active Workspace Administration documentation for a description of preferences and how to set them.

Procedure

  1. If you have not done so already, search for and open a work package, and then navigate to the Line Balancing page.

  2. (Optional) Select a process station or a process resource, and perform line balancing tasks. Easy Plan recalculates the bottleneck time and displays it as the line's Cycle Time.
Note Each time you change an allocated time or move an operator, Easy Plan recalculates the Cycle Time and identifies the new bottlenecks on the line.

  3. (Optional) In the overview panel, click the Resources tab to view working and waiting times for process resources on the line.
Easy Plan displays all the cobot and human process resources on the line, and highlights the process resource with the longest working time in orange. This is the process resource bottleneck.

  4. (Optional) In the overview panel, click the Stations tab to view working and waiting times for process stations on the line.
Easy Plan displays all the process stations on the line, and highlights the process station with the longest cycle time in orange. This is the process station bottleneck.

  5. (Optional) In the Operations Sequence panel, create flows to change the sequence in which work is performed in the process station. Easy Plan updates the Cycle Time for the line and updates the Resources and Station tabs.
