Variants

Create solution variants in an MBOM

You can create variants of the category Reuse in an MBOM.

Prerequisites

You need a Teamcenter MBOM plus license to add solution variants to an assembly or usage-based MBOM.

Solution variants in an MBOM are enabled when the template MBM Solution Variant Support is installed.

The preference MBMSVSourceFromEBOM must be set to false to create solution variants of the category Reuse in a manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM). When it is set to true, solution variants can only be created in an engineering bill of materials (EBOM).

Procedure

  1. Open a work package that contains an EBOM and MBOM with a shared configurator context. In this example, the EBOM and MBOM share the same variants using the configurator context CAR_DES.

  2. Click the BOM Alignment task button.

  3. On the BOM Alignment page, if you have not already done so, assign parts from the EBOM to MBOM.

  4. In the MBOM panel, click Settings → Arrange, and then add the column Assembly Indicator to the MBOM panel view.

  5. In the MBOM panel, from the Assembly Indicator column, select Configurable Assembly for any relevant assemblies. For each assembly designated as configurable, the assembly is set to Reuse and the Solution Variant is displayed as Pending.

  6. In the MBOM panel toolbar, select a configurable assembly and click Details.

  7. Click the Solution Variants tab, and in the tab toolbar, click Create . In the Create Solution Variant dialog box, the Solution Variants tab displays the root of the selected solution variant, as well as the variant rule and other details.

  8. Select one or more options marked Yes (Valid for Solution Variants), and then click Create. The solution variant is defined.

  9. Open the MBOM Configuration panel by clicking the MBOM configuration header.

  10. In the Variant group, click No Variant Rule, select the variant rule that you defined, and then click Configure. The target MBOM is now a 100% BOM and is configured for this variant only. The Solution Variant column displays the path and name of the selected solution, or the text PENDING if no solution is yet configured. The ID column displays the 150% source BOM IDs from which the solution variant derives.
