Managing and tracking changes > Using ECNs and MCNs
Set an MCN on an MBOM with assigned lines from an EBOM
In a typical process involving a manufacturing change notice (MCN), a process planner may set the MCN with a given revision rule to an MBOM structure and then add elements from an EBOM structure with a different revision rule. This example illustrates such a scenario.
Procedure
In Manufacturing Process Planner, open the MBOM to which an MCN will be applied as well as your Home folder.
Set the MCN.
In the MBOM, make any changes requested by the lead planner.
An item revision is added to the MCN folder in your Home folder whenever a line is added or revised in the structure view to which the MCN is set. Changes may include any changes to BOM contents such as item, part, or work area. In this example, the preference is set to Pending.
You can also unset and reset the change notice on structures (for example, if a mistake is made or change revoked), and add or remove change notice objects as necessary. Any new nodes added to the MBOM structure inherit the change notice property of the MBOM top line where the change status was set.
- From an associated EBOM, copy and paste a structure to the MBOM.
The assigned line is pasted with the release status of the EBOM (TCM Released, Pending), while the MBOM retains the MCN status (Pending).
This information is also captured in the change notice's Solution Items folder in your My Teamcenter Home folder. Note Release statuses are defined by an administrator in the MEMCN_release_statuses preference. When a subassembly node is assigned from an EBOM to an MBOM, change notices track the assigned node and its children based on closure rules defined by an administrator in the preference MEMCN_solution_object_collection_rule is GetChangedProcessLines.
- When finished, release the MBOM.
In your Home folder, double-click the MCN revision.
In the New Process dialog box, from the Process Template list, select a release status (for example, Change Pending to TCM Released) and click OK.
All lines in the MBOM are changed to the released status. If any new revisions were created in the MBOM, the old revisions are displayed in the change notice's Impacted Items folder in the My Teamcenter Home folder.
Select the top line of the MBOM for which you made changes and choose Tools→Change Tracker.
Review your changes.
In the Change Tracker dialog box, select Search by effectivity and the Revision effectivity check box and click Next.
Select Already reviewed and To review values for which you want to review changes.
Click Next and ensure that the Revision effectivity check box is selected.
Click Next, select a preferred status, and then click Finish.
In the Change Tracker view, select each revision change to review the details below it.
(Optional) Click one or more revision changes and click Create Revision Details Report to generate an an Excel report containing revision details for one or more revision changes.
Tip Your administrator can customize the report layout and elements using preferences with the suffix MECTRev.
Close the report and Change Tracker view.
- Inform the lead planner that the changes have been implemented.
