Use colors to identify unassigned objects in an MBOM and BOP

You can easily identify product and manufacturing features in a manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM) that have been consumed in a bill of process (BOP), and thereby verify what objects still need to be assigned, using assignment indication mode. The Assignment Indication command lets you view assigned and unassigned features and parts in semi-transparent colors in both the MBOM and BOP views to see structural relationships. In the 3D graphic viewer, the same semi-transparent colors indicate physical relationships, such as mating surfaces. You can also hide any assigned parts in the graphic viewer and view unassigned objects without coloration.

Procedure

1. Open your linked MBOM and BOP so that you can compare them.

2. Apply any necessary configurations, such as effectivity, occurrence types, or variants, to the structures.

Note If you apply configuration to a structure while in assignment indication mode, the colors disappear, and assigned parts and features disappear in the graphic viewer.

3. If the structures are not linked, do the following.

Right-click the top line in the BOP and choose Link/Associate→Associate Product as Target.

In the Associate Product as Target dialog box, the BOP is selected in the Process group.

Select the top line in the MBOM, and in the Targets group, click Add Selected .

Click OK.

4. In the MBOM, select the area for which you want to identify assignments, and then click Assignment Indication .

The command generates colors identical to those used in advanced accountability checks to help you identify process assignment statuses. Whatever lines are expanded in the MBOM are displayed with assignment statuses in the MBOM and BOP. By default, in the graphics view, parts that are assigned, parts assigned multiple times, and parts unassigned are displayed in the same semi-transparent colors.

5. To hide single and multiple assignments in the graphics view, press Ctrl+G, or click next to the Assignment Indication command and then choose Blank. Only unassigned objects are displayed.

Tip Press Ctrl+G again to change back to semi-transparent colors.

6. Assign or unassign product and manufacturing features from MBOM to BOP as necessary.

The colors change as features are assigned or unassigned.

7. When finished, click Assignment Indication to turn assignment indication mode off.
